Canada's Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) is part of Bill C-27, moving through Parliament.
Canada is building its AI framework primarily through Bill C-27 (Digital Charter Implementation Act), which includes the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) covering high-impact AI systems. Existing privacy law (PIPEDA) and provincial rules (Quebec Law 25) already apply to AI-driven processing.
Consumers have rights under PIPEDA for automated decisions that significantly affect them, and Quebec residents have expanded rights to know and object. AIDA would add requirements for high-impact AI systems to be transparent, risk-managed, and accountable.
